Travel Tips For Choosing Bus Travelers

Bus Travel is a great way to travel through the United States, Canada, and Mexico. It is widely available, offers flexible schedules, and is relatively inexpensive. You can see more of the country and appreciate many local sites and tourist attractions than when Traveling by plane or train.

Here are some tips on how to get the most value from a bus trip.

1. When buying your ticket, consider the possibility of getting a discount. If you’re a student of a high school or college, a senior citizen, or a veteran you may be eligible for a discount.

2. You can choose to buy a regular bus ticket for a round trip or you can also buy a trip for unlimited travel within a certain area for a set number of days. For example, Greyhound Discovery Passes allow you to travel anywhere within certain regions for time periods ranging from four days all the way to sixty days.

3. You have to be economical in your packing because there are strict limits on number of bags and their weight and size. If using the overhead rack, you must make sure that your bags fit. If you’re using skis or bikes, find out the special rules related to them.

4. Seats for buses are not assigned, so you should get to the bus depot an hour early, or even two hours early. Besides ensuring that you get a seat, you can also choose the best seats. Buses work on a first-come and first-serve criteria.

5. Since you will be traveling for many hours, it’s important that you choose your seat wisely. The back row seats will not recline and the front row seats will not have overhead lights. If you like views, choose a window seat; and if you like to move around a lot, choose an aisle seat. Finally, you may not want to get a seat near the motor coach restrooms. As the bus trip gets longer, these can smell awful.

6. When the bus stops make sure you know when you are expected back. The bus will not wait for you and you could find yourself stranded in a town just because you lost track of time. Also, be sure that you get your re-boarding tickets. These tickets ensure that you keep your right to board first over new people coming on board.
